Small and Cottage Industry Development Board

The Small and Cottage Industry Development Board (SCIDB) is a government organization established in 1974 (2031 B.S.) under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies of Nepal.

  • Its main purpose is to promote, develop, and support small and cottage industries across the country by providing technical, financial, and managerial assistance.

The SCIDB plays a crucial role in the industrialization process of Nepal, especially in the rural and semi-urban areas, where small and cottage industries serve as the backbone of the local economy.

  • These industries utilize local raw materials, traditional skills, and indigenous technologies, contributing to employment generation, poverty reduction, and balanced regional development.

The Board provides training, credit facilities, technical advice, market access, and entrepreneurship development programs to help small entrepreneurs start and sustain their businesses.

  1. Entrepreneurship Development:
    • Conducts training programs and workshops for new and existing entrepreneurs.
    • Provides guidance for project planning, business management, and marketing.

    • Offers technical know-how, skill development, and quality improvement services.
    • Supports in upgrading traditional crafts and production technologies.
  3. Financial Assistance:
    • Facilitates access to loans and credit schemes through banks and financial institutions.
    • Helps entrepreneurs prepare business proposals and obtain subsidies or grants.
  4. Market Promotion:
    • Organizes trade fairs, exhibitions, and marketing campaigns for promoting locally made products.
    • Assists in branding and market linkage at national and international levels.
  5. Policy Implementation:
    • Implements government policies and programs related to small and cottage industries.
    • Collects data, conducts surveys, and provides recommendations for policy improvement.
  6. Coordination and Collaboration:
    • Works with other government bodies, NGOs, INGOs, and private organizations to promote industrial growth.
